In November 2011 supporters of Wrexham FC took ownership of their Club. Far from standing back to admire their work they quickly embarked on a series of changes that were deemed necessary to safeguard the Club and re-energise the community around it.
Supporters Direct worked closely with supporters of the Club both pre and post the takeover. A major part of our help was co-ordinating a share scheme which to date has raised over £120,000 from more than 300 contributors and has qualified for 30% tax relief for investors. This has given the Club a vital fund for future developments such as refurbishing the Club shop, and provides working capital should the business require it.
SD Club Development carried out a review of the ownership and governance structures and managed a consultation with the Board and supporters recommending a new legal model and supporting policies. These have been agreed with the outcome that for the first time in the Clubs history the community is embedded in the ownership structure.
We have supported the Board on their new role overseeing a multi-million pound business, delivering a training session on responsibilities and fiduciary duties.
Gavin Jones who is a Board Member of Wrexham FC said
